Conditions
- Driving licence
- A national licence in Latin script is accepted. If yours is in Cyrillic only, bring an International Driving Permit alongside it.
- Age and experience
- Usually 21+ with at least 2 years of driving experience. Premium classes require more.
- Deposit
- Many cars come with no deposit at all — there is a filter for exactly that. Where there is one it is usually €100–300, in cash or blocked on a card.
- Insurance
- Basic insurance is included. Full cover with no excess can be filtered for, or added at pick-up.
- Crossing borders
- Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia — by prior arrangement and with a Green Card. Ask in advance; without it you will be turned back at the border.
- Fuel
- Full tank out, full tank back.
- Season
- High season runs June through September. In July and August cars and boats are booked out 2–4 weeks ahead and prices are 30–50% higher.

Common questions
How much does it cost to rent a car in Montenegro?
Economy from €25 a day in low season, an SUV from €45, a seven-seat minivan from €60. In July and August prices are about a third higher and cars are booked out early.
Can I rent a car with no deposit?
Yes — a share of the cars have no deposit, and there is a filter for it. On the rest the deposit is usually €100–300, in cash or blocked on a card.
Do I need an International Driving Permit?
If your licence is duplicated in Latin script, you do not need one. If it is Cyrillic only, bring an IDP — without it the car may not be handed over and you will have problems at a roadside check.
Can I take the rental car to Albania or Croatia?
Yes, but only by prior arrangement and with a Green Card, which the rental company issues for an extra fee. Without it you will be turned back at the border.
Will the car be delivered to Tivat airport?
Yes — in Tivat and Podgorica the car is brought to the terminal, usually at no charge. In Budva and Kotor it is delivered to your hotel. You set the time when booking.
A day at sea?
Boats leave Tivat and Kotor for the Blue Cave and Sveti Stefan. A whole yacht starts at €250 a day.
